Women of age group ranging from 18 years to 55 years were personally screened by the Artemis officials and the doctors.

According to a report by a leading public health institution, Cervical cancer has emerged as the second most common cause of cancer deaths amongst Indian women. On average, India reports about 122,000 new cases of cervical cancer annually, with around 67,500 women succumbing to the disease each year. Cervical cancer comes next only to breast cancer in terms of mortality rate in Indian women, the report added.

Preventive strategies for cervical cancer includes regular screening and vaccination. A 100% preventable disease, Cervical Cancer if detected at an early stage is also curable.

Speaking on the occasion, Mridu Gupta, CEO, CAPED said, “We have educated and discussed precautionary measures with over 5,000 women, including staff and girls of various schools and colleges as well as village/basti women. Invariably, the camps organised by us, have resulted in detection of a few positive cases from early to advanced stages. Early detection and screening tests has helped save many lives. Cervical Cancer is predominantly found in sexually active women. Though a 100% curable disease, India still loses one woman every 7 minutes to cervical cancer. We aim to pursue our goal of awareness building towards cancer prevention and are thankful to our sponsors and hospitals who help us with the infrastructure, equipments and other facilities.”

Based on research reports and studies, CAPED – Gurgaon-based NGO, has designed a series of activities to facilitate information and build awareness.
