NMMC Sets up a ‘Smart City - War Room' at Belapur HQ
Oct 21, 2015: Belapur, Navi Mumbai: In order to gear up with the Smart City Challenge, NMMC has inaugurated a ‘War Room’ at the NMMC Head-Quarters at Belapur. The War-Room undertakes to work around the Smart City Challenge campaign, which aims to encourage and invite the residents to contribute their ideas on smart governance, smart information, smart citizens, smart mobility, smart energy etc.
Project aims to help NMMC emerge as a winner in the list of 10 cities that will undertake the smart city journey from Government of Maharashtra. The central level is bullish about Navi Mumbai, as new city concept and should be considered as priority for the citizens of the smart city.
“Speaking on the occasion, said, Municipal Commissioner Shri Dinesh Waghmare, “War-Room will carry out the works planned by us while participating at the Smart-City. A dedicated war-room will help execute the activities in a more organised manner and speed up the tasks undertaken smoothly.”

Mohan Dagaonkar, L.B.T Department Deputy Commissioner Mr. Umesh Wagh, Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Property Shri. Dadasaheb Chabukswar, Chief Account and Finance officer Shri Dhanraj Garad, Additional City Engineer, Shri Surendra Patil, Jt. City Engineer Shri G.V. Rao, ETC Director Dr. Varsha Bhagat, Executive Engineer, Shri. Sanjay Desai and Shri. Arvind Shinde, along with and other officers and employees.
To connect, reach out and invite Residents, Corporate, Industry Bodies, Entrepreneurs, Professionals, Housing Societies, Schools, Colleges & Educational Institutions, Charitable Organizations to participate in the Smart City Challenge is amongst one of the key objectives of NMMC Smart City War-Room. NMMC plans to host series of large scale people-centric interactive campaigns both off-line & on-line. Various people participation meetings and forums, essay writing contests, poster-making, quizzes etc will be held in the coming weeks. The campaign aims to encourage and invite people to submit their ideas towards enhancing the Quality of Life for the communities residing in Navi Mumbai.

Citizens are requested to actively contribute and participate in the Smart City Project via digital and social media, in addition to the numerous city events being planned, aimed at encouraging residents to contribute towards Mahapalika’s - 'Navi Mumbai Smart City' concept. Recently, NMMC had also organised a Citizen’s Forum on the Smart City at an auditorium in Vashi.
The war-room aims to collate, analyse and accelerate the campaign. Noteworthy suggestions, recommendations and suggestions received from public, would be collated and presented for consideration to the Authorities.
Citizens from across different age groups and skills sets are invited to participate in the Smart City Navi Mumbai project and contribute their ideas to the NMMC either via the digital, social or traditional platforms. Mayor Shri Sudhakar Sonawane and Municipal Commissioner Shri Dinesh Waghmare appealed on behalf of NMMC.
